Sales of "A Plague Tale: Requiem" did not meet the publisher's expectations, though this may have been a predictable outcome. On social media, players posted accusations that "A Plague Tale: Requiem" was the "most radical and feminist" entry in the series, following the trope of "I am a strong, independent woman," which failed to resonate with many players.
Player tweet:
"The corruption in the gaming industry has gone deep into the bone. Even when developers create an excellent foundation for a game, they can't seem to stick to the path of success.
"A Plague Tale: Innocence" created a cute and highly charismatic female protagonist. She lacked the physical strength of men and wasn't skilled in combat, yet she relied on her intelligence, courage, and adaptability to protect her brother and overcome dangers time and again. Her strength never needed to be proven through muscle.
However, in "A Plague Tale: Requiem," the female protagonist became more homosexual, physically stronger, and more radical. As if the progressive elements from the first game weren't enough.
By the latest installment, "A Plague Tale: Requiem," it had completely fallen into the "I am a strong, independent woman" trope. As a result, the game flopped miserably.
In just a few years, a masterpiece devolved into garbage filled with feminist preaching. This outcome was entirely self-inflicted."
This narrative gained considerable traction on social media, with players pointing out that the "Dishonored" series suffered a nearly identical fate:
- Part One: Innovative, distinctive, strong concept
- Part Two: Most of the new content is good, and you can play as a woman!
- Part Three: Major setting changes, poor story, short—but you can play as a Black woman! That's what fans want, right?
Other players added, "I was very proud at the time because it was another video game made by a French studio. The first game was really great and looked very unique. It's truly pathetic that this woke nonsense ruined Everythinggj... I won't buy this new game; the protagonist looks transgender. I know it's been corrupted."
