Epic Games is preparing a major update for Unreal Engine 5.9, with the preview version reportedly launching next week. This update will improve Model Context Protocol (MCP) integration and officially support running projects via web browsers.
With improved MCP integration, connected AI solutions will be able to interact directly with the Unreal Editor to modify 3D scenes. As a result, related tools may enter the actual editing workflow, no longer limited to providing suggestions outside the editor.
The currently disclosed information does not specify which editing functions the tools can call, nor does it clarify permission controls, compatible AI services, or security restrictions. Therefore, the existing content is insufficient to indicate that it can already automate the entire game or scene production process.
Unreal Engine 5.9 will also improve existing tools and enhance the overall stability of the engine. Epic Games has not yet released the full changelog; detailed features, platform requirements, and known issues for the preview version remain to be disclosed in future materials.
