Security vulnerabilities have been discovered in the game servers for Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III, prompting FromSoftware to suspend online services for both titles on all platforms. The timeline for restoring service has not yet been determined, but offline content remains playable.
Servers for both games were taken offline on October 30. Initially, the developers cited only "server issues" as the cause, but later confirmed that the shutdown was related to security vulnerabilities. They stated that this is a temporary suspension and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
During the server shutdown, all gameplay features requiring an internet connection are unavailable, including co-op mode, invasions, and duels. This measure applies to both Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III across all platforms, rather than affecting just a single version or region.
The developers have currently only confirmed the reason for the server shutdown, its scope, and the availability of offline mode. They have not yet announced the progress on vulnerability fixes or plans for reopening the servers.
