Today, Rockstar Games released a 26-minute extended demo of GTA 6, showcasing various core mechanics. The footage was recorded on a PS5 console, showing significant improvements in visual quality, character animations, and UI compared to early leaked versions. The game's basic framework remains the familiar GTA style.
Gameplay Demo:
The demo opens in a gang neighborhood, where Lucia and Jason get caught in a fierce shootout with the police. The scene then shifts to show snippets of daily life in the protagonists' shared home, depicting the lifestyle of this criminal duo. The video also showcases interactive mini-games such as lockpicking and car theft. The streets of Vice City are populated with a massive number of NPCs, featuring extremely high traffic density.
GTA 6 will deliver an epic main story, a large cast of distinct characters, and a massive open world full of gameplay possibilities. Players can seamlessly switch between Jason and Lucia at any time. However, this installment introduces a "Joint Exploration" mechanic: the two can act together, and spending time together strengthens their bond. They are always criminal partners, and whether players actively cultivate their relationship will directly influence how the plot unfolds. However, players cannot force a breakup; the relationship system is optional.
The game introduces a six-star wanted level system, where the wanted level is tied to the area. After witnessing a crime, the police will receive a description of the player, including appearance, vehicle, clothing, and whether they are accompanied by a partner. Changing vehicles or escaping on foot can alter the pursuit conditions. Roads are narrower and traffic is denser, increasing driving difficulty.
The new Criminal Record system can be seen as an evolution of Red Dead Redemption 2's Honor system. It no longer allows players to wash away mass murders simply by greeting everyone. Shootouts during armed robberies are considered reasonable responses, but avoidable escalations of violence will alter the criminal record, thereby affecting how the world reacts to the player and the narrative direction.
Other new features include: vehicles require refueling and battery level management. Vehicles have a detailed localized damage system. Melee combat has been upgraded, supporting combos and disarming. The protagonists' body types change dynamically.
GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. A PC version is confirmed, but no official release date has been announced. Rockstar stated that the team spent several years studying real-life criminal groups to craft the unique characters of GTA 6.
