"Meow Battle" Demo: A Stray vs. House Cat Showdown

"Meow Battle" is a card-based tower defense game where players rely on auto-battling cats to continuously defend against waves of enemy stray cats until the opponent's crystal is destroyed. At first glance, it resembles the classic "The Battle Cats," but this game features even cuter cat designs. As a pure indie title, it offers a more streamlined and accessible experience.

The level design resembles "Plants vs. Zombies," with enemies appearing in fixed lineups by waves. Our cats require time to regenerate energy and can only be deployed once the corresponding value is reached. Facing faster-spawning stray cats, blindly deploying units whenever they are available is definitely a mistake in the early game. The early-game joy of the "hoarding strategy" involves using items like landmines and rolling logs at the start to stop the enemy's first wave of minions. This not only effectively defends your base but also allows energy to stack up. It's similar to placing Potato Mines in the back rows in PvZ to let your Sunflowers produce more sun. Wait until the second wave of minions approaches your doorstep, then deploy a large number of house cats to achieve a dominant position.

There are multiple ways to hoard and release. Early on, there are items that allow the initial kitten "Stick Jack" to merge, combining them into a giant cat after use. This unified unit fears no AoE attacks and can effectively delay enemy progress, creating a window for energy regeneration. The transformation animation occasionally has surprising effects, such as dodging skills. For instance, Iaido Cat "Akugoro's" flash strike might miss entirely because it loses its target.

Once you grasp the essence of hoarding, a balanced mix of ranged and melee units becomes the latest key to victory. With just three shooters, continuously supplementing with tanks to lead the charge allows for smooth advancement up the high ground. Whether it's Black Cat and Ah Qiang in the early game, Big Orange and Wuji in the mid-game, or Solo and Garfield in the late game, having meat shields in front and shooters behind is always the optimal synergistic lineup. Let this steel torrent advance steadily, and you'll continually enjoy the satisfaction of crushing your enemies like eggs with stones.

Micro-management isn't exclusive to giant cats. Once players acquire "Akugoro," they can pair him with the "Magatama" item to let him perform another Iaido slash. Of course, controlling Iaido cats requires rhythmic timing; don't summon them all at once, or they will lock onto the same target, wasting damage output. Instead, spacing out Akugoros every few steps allows them to "divide and conquer" the enemies.

However, why fight honorably? Although each level has many enemies, the core objective is destroying the crystal. It's similar to "Clash Royale"; you don't need to engage in a prolonged battle. Once players unlock the ninja cat "Shosuke" at level 16, they can choose to release him in large numbers when enemy cats are sparse. Shosuke will use his extreme movement speed to strike directly at the heart of the enemy base. Even before the final wave arrives, the opponent's crystal may already be destroyed. This method bypasses the "cumbersome formalities" of the process, ending the battle prematurely.

Excellent logistics can enhance any strategy. Prioritize upgrading the offline "Dried Fish Factory," which not only increases energy regeneration speed but also grants you more starting energy. This effectively handles early-game threats and helps form various interesting lineups. Suppose you discover the chef cat "Cook" in an Easter egg stage; perfect offline upgrades combined with its energy regeneration boost will make your energy meter overflow! Simply spam the shield cat "Garfield," who can block three instances of any damage, including boss slashes, making it easy to push straight to the enemy base.

Of course, the above only covers the beta content. Whether it's items, equipment, cats, or various gameplay mechanics, I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg for the full release. A casual browse through the catalog even reveals something resembling Darth Vader from "Star Wars" (though is this unit actually a cat?). Regardless, I believe the essence of this game goes far beyond this.

Friendly reminder: For those interested, please note that the first character of the game's title is "Meow" (喵) and not "Cat" (猫) to reduce search errors. After all, the author and some friends have indeed encountered this issue.
