Backyard Bayou is a fast-paced, intense third-person roguelite shooter. Something ancient has awakened in the swamp behind the shack, but the old man living there still has chores to do. He grabs his shotgun, steps off the porch, and prepares to clean house.

Something has awakened in the swamp

Horrifying tentacled monstrosities, corrupted mutants, and things that should not exist are crawling out of the swamp. Each run takes you into an ever-changing bayou where enemies don't come in waves, giving you no moment to breathe. They will pour in endlessly until you find the ritual site, summon something that answers your call, take it down, and harvest its corpse. Then you repeat, going deeper and facing stronger foes.

Keep moving forward, or perish here

Momentum is at the heart of combat. The harder you fight and the faster you move, the stronger you become, and the swamp responds with even fiercer attacks. Duck, dodge, dive, and carve a path through the escalating pressure. If you stand still, the old man dies.

Create something the swamp will regret

Each run depends on what you discover. Accumulate items, chase synergies, and turn a weary old man into a force the swamp fears. Choose from over twenty firearms, a shed full of melee weapons, and skills ranging from practical to profane. Chests, shrines, and stranger things are scattered throughout each journey, if you're willing to stray from the safe path to find them.

Go deep enough, and it will notice you

Survive long enough in the swamp, and something massive will come to have a "chat" with you. Defeat it, then make your choice: accept victory and end the run, or continue the cycle into harder realms to see how long the old man's luck holds. Each run lasts between 20 and 30 minutes—short enough for quick replays, yet long enough to craft all sorts of bizarre builds.

Bring friends along for the ride

Early Access supports online co-op. Invite your Steam friends, split the loot, and clear the swamp together. This feature is currently experimental, with more content to come.
