"Marvel Rivals" First-Week Sales Fall Short of 500,000 Units, with 74% on PS5

According to data released by analyst Rhys Elliott, the PlayStation-published fighting game Marvel Rivals sold less than 500,000 copies in its first week. It is reported that the PS5 version accounted for 74% of total sales (485,000 copies), while the PC Steam version accounted for only 26%. Marvel Rivals generated approximately $33 million in revenue during its first week.

Analysis suggests that the PC Steam version of Marvel Rivals was neglected (receiving mixed reviews on Steam) due to various reasons, including optimization issues, bugs, DRM, and lack of Linux support (incompatible with Steam Deck).

Similarly, the majority of the game's players appear to reside in the United States. This means that Marvel Rivals failed to gain sufficient attention in the Japanese market, which has traditionally been a key audience for fighting games. Analysts pointed out that if not for the issues with the PC version, Marvel Rivals could have surpassed 1 million copies sold in its first week.

The report indicates that the game's player base seems to overlap with that of other fighting games. However, more than half of Marvel Rivals players have also played recently released Marvel titles, such as the Marvel's Spider-Man series on PlayStation and Marvel Rivals.

While this means the game's current performance is not bad, it has yet to reach its full potential. Perhaps with continuous improvements and additional content, sales will gradually increase.
