Nintendo Registers New Trademark for 'Dr. Mario World', Potential Switch Port Expected

Nintendo recently filed a new trademark application for its discontinued mobile game "Dr. Mario World," sparking widespread speculation among players that the puzzle game might return in the form of a port or remake.

"Dr. Mario World" launched on iOS and Android in July 2019, featuring classic virus-elimination gameplay optimized for mobile devices. However, due to criticisms of being a "mediocre mobile game lacking the soul of the original," player engagement remained low, and Nintendo officially terminated global services in October 2021.

The new trademark application submitted by Nintendo covers categories such as "downloadable video game programs," suggesting it may pave the way for ports to the Switch or Switch 2 platforms.

However, some analysts remain cautious. Users on social media platforms speculate that this move may simply be a routine measure by Nintendo to protect its intellectual property, aimed at countering plans by community mod teams to revive several discontinued mobile games, including "Dr. Mario World."

Nintendo has not yet issued an official statement on this matter. Whether it will ultimately be a port or purely a move to protect intellectual property rights remains to be seen as we await further news.
