Recently, Nintendo insider Nash Weedle revealed that a new Wario Land title is in development for the Switch 2 and may make its debut at the September 9 Nintendo Direct.
Previously, insider malo392 had revealed the existence of this title, targeting a 2027 release window. However, there is no guarantee it will be unveiled at the September 9 Nintendo Direct; it might only receive its first trailer or be entirely absent from the presentation.
Insider Nash Weedle also added related information on the podcast. The new Wario Land game was initially planned for a 2026 release, but the launch window has since changed, with an official announcement approaching.
The last mainline 2D platformer in the Wario Land series was Wario Land: Shake It! for the Wii in 2008. Since then, the IP has only seen updates through the WarioWare party minigame series, leaving the traditional treasure-hunting platform adventures dormant for nearly 20 years. The two series have completely different positioning: Wario Land focuses on 2D platforming, transformation mechanics, and treasure hunting, while WarioWare centers on quick minigame collections.
The insider did not disclose further details regarding gameplay, art style, or story. The player community has high expectations for the return of Wario Land, hoping to see the revival of classic mechanics such as signature injury-based transformations and treasure collection.
