Following the milestone of over one million copies sold at launch for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom announced its strategic direction: in addition to continuing development of new AAA titles, the company will deeply activate its vast IP assets and revive several classic series that have lacked new entries for an extended period.
In a recent official statement regarding the sales figures for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, media outlets uncovered a noteworthy remark: "In addition to consistently releasing major new titles every year, Capcom is committed to reviving classic IPs that have not seen new releases for a long time. The company will fully leverage its extensive game library to further enhance corporate value. Onimusha: Way of the Sword is a product of this strategy."
This statement immediately sparked widespread speculation among players. Last year, reports revealed that Capcom planned to develop new projects for Devil May Cry, Mega Man, and Ace Attorney. Looking at Capcom's IP lineup, the last mainline entry in the Dead Rising series was Dead Rising 4 in 2016, while Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite was released in 2017.
