"Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth" - All Characters Can Quickly Unlock FITS Four Jobs and Freely Change Appearance

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will adjust the class unlock method for the FITS system. Approximately 5 to 6 hours into the game, all party members will have access to four classes, eliminating the need to unlock them separately for different characters.

Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi and Battle Director Teruki Endo introduced this design during PAX West 2026, showcasing new gameplay footage. The live demonstration included combat styles for Cid and Vincent, as well as the Summoner and Black Mage classes within the FITS system.

The FITS system originally employed a progressive unlock scheme: four classes were tied to specific characters, requiring players to advance the story and reach designated points to obtain them. Teruki Endo opposed this arrangement, insisting that party members receive all options immediately upon system activation.

Naoki Hamaguchi recalled that Endo explicitly stated from the outset that all content should be available from the start. The final approach removed class unlock differences between characters, with presentation slides summarizing the goal as giving players greater freedom in control and party composition.

The game will also feature a cosmetic transmogrification function, separating character appearance from the current FITS class. For example, even if players assign Cloud the Knight class, they can retain his standard appearance without adopting the corresponding class outfit.

Some alternate outfits can be obtained through side content, with some featuring quirky and humorous designs. The full range of these outfits and their specific acquisition conditions have not yet been announced.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled to launch on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Switch 2 on April 8, 2027, with playable demos available during Tokyo Game Show 2026.
