Arc System Works has officially announced the survivor-like action game "Kunio-kun Survivors: Downtown of the Dead." The game will launch on Apple Arcade on October 1, requiring players to fight for survival amidst hordes of zombies infesting the city.
The story begins with Hiroshi and Kunio returning home after watching a zombie movie. Hiroshi suddenly reveals to Kunio that real zombies have appeared. The group will then battle zombies across various parts of the city, encountering new developments by the journey's end.
During combat, players must defeat large numbers of zombies to earn experience points and level up. Signature special moves from the "Kunio-kun" series will also strengthen as the game progresses, gaining new visual effects and increased power.
Upgrade options provided upon each level-up are randomly generated, allowing players to combine melee attacks, ranged attacks, and stat bonuses to create different build strategies. The equipment system features six slots—school uniform, baggy pants, belt, buttons, inner buttons, and accessories—to permanently boost character stats.
Equipment also comes with random special effects, enabling players to repeatedly collect and filter gear suited to their playstyle. As the game progresses, over 20 characters such as Kunio and Riki can be unlocked, each possessing unique moves and stat values.
Players can lead up to two AI-controlled companions into battle and equip them with gear. The first trailer for "Kunio-kun Survivors: Downtown of the Dead" has been released, with the game scheduled to launch on Apple Arcade on October 1.
