On September 9, Capcom released a weapon introduction video for the Gunlance in Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension, showcasing several new features including attribute-infused charged shells, new evade-reload animations, and point-blank Wyrmstake Cannon full bursts.
Weapon Introduction:
The hunter, equipped with new Kushala Daora armor, first demonstrates the Gunlance's Amped State activation: folding the lance, thrusting the shield forward, charging at the monster with an exposed stake stab, which can be followed up by a high-jumping aerial rush attack triggered upon landing.
In the Amped State, the Gunlance gains a new evade action that allows reloading while swinging the weapon, which appears to include invincibility frames. The Wyrmstake Cannon combo has also received new enhanced moves.
Another notable detail in the video is that the charged shell burst appears to trigger an ice-element effect. This mechanic recalls the "Elemental Shell" system from Monster Hunter Frontier. Traditional Gunlance shells deal physical and fire damage, but the new title may allow players to build entirely new hunting styles centered around elemental attacks.
The end of the video also showcases a claw attack similar to the one seen in the previous Sword and Shield introduction—where the hunter clings to the monster and unleashes a point-blank Wyrmstake Cannon full burst as a flashy finishing move. In addition to the Amped Braces, the Clutch Claw's functionality itself may have been further expanded.
Monster Hunter Wilds is now available on PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The major DLC, "Wilds: Ascension," is scheduled for release in 2027.
