Hello everyone!
We are Phil and Oli! For those who got to know us during the crazy hype of Overcooked, it's great to connect with you again.
For those we haven't met yet, let us introduce ourselves: we are Phil and Oli. Ten years ago, we made our first game, hoping to resonate with fans of "couch co-op" games, bringing friends and family of all ages together to play in a way that's becoming increasingly rare.
Back then, we sat side by side on the sofa at Phil's house developing this game. While we hoped it would resonate with players, we never expected it to become a phenomenon—or spark so many friendship-testing, #Funtime arguments!
Ten years later, Overcooked's unique cooperative chaos has been experienced by tens of millions of players, winning two BAFTA awards and one TGA award, and spreading to every corner of the world. We've even heard that in China, it's affectionately known as the "Breakup Kitchen"!
When we started conceptualizing our next game, we wanted to continue the nostalgia for Saturday night home gaming sessions and keep contributing to the "couch co-op" player community, which lacks high-quality titles.
We also want to retain Overcooked's low barrier to entry with its one-button controls, resisting the temptation to sacrifice inclusivity for increased mechanical difficulty.
But at the same time, we want to take Overcooked players out of the kitchen and into a larger, more immersive adventure: this is Weird Town Journey.
Unlike the urgent anxiety of timed levels, Weird Town Journey immerses players in a long-form suspenseful story. This requires you to work together to solve escape-room-style puzzles, tackle quirky and tricky obstacles, and combine your wits to figure out what's happening in this strange town full of oddballs.
Paying homage to our favorite coming-of-age films and TV shows (like The Goonies and Stranger Things), as well as excellent games like Luigi's Mansion, this two-player co-op game (supporting local or online multiplayer) lets you play as various combinations of three friends—Drew, Blake, and Charlie—embarking on an engaging and extremely brain-teasing journey.
Our office has moved from Phil's sofa... to the attic upstairs at Phil's house! But hey, we at least have desks now, and maybe saying goodbye to back pain will help us create an even more "brain-burning" experience! Additionally, we've brought on a group of talented, like-minded developers to help us build Weird Town Journey.
Today, we're showing you the first gameplay demo of Weird Town Journey—we hope you enjoy it!
Weird Town Journey is scheduled for release in Spring 2027. You've already decided who you're going to play with, right?
