Bungie has announced adjustments to the future development schedule for Marathon: Lost Starship. The major "Symbiosis" update, originally set for September 22, has been delayed to December 8, and the team has decided to no longer strictly adhere to fixed seasonal deadlines for major updates.
Content originally scheduled for September will be merged into the "Symbiosis" update. This includes new Strider shells, permanent PvE experiences, and a revamped "Boundary" area, as well as the addition of a social hub and shooting range, an experimental team deathmatch mode, and improvements to the new player onboarding.
Ahead of the major update, Bungie will release a smaller, more focused update on October 6. This version will reset player progress and the in-game economy, adjust rewards, and improve the current state of the game.
This delay also comes with a restructuring of the development cycle. Bungie stated that it will focus on larger, more impactful updates in the future, no longer tying major content to fixed seasonal deadlines, allowing the team more time to develop, test, and refine features before release.
Bungie noted that players have consistently reported a lack of depth and variety since launch, expressing a desire for more robust progression systems and reasons to keep playing long-term. The team acknowledges these concerns and believes it must change both the content being developed and how it is delivered.
According to the current schedule, Marathon: Lost Starship will first update its progress, economy, and reward systems on October 6, while the "Symbiosis" update, featuring permanent PvE experiences and other content, is scheduled for December 8.
