The game was initially released in Japan on September 15, 2016, with the PS4 version launching in Western markets nearly seven months later after localization. Upon release, it received widespread critical acclaim and further expanded the influence of the Persona series.

Other results from the poll showed that 7% of participants considered Persona 5 their favorite game, while 15% regarded it as an excellent title. Another 11% felt the game was good but overrated, 2% found it average, and 0.7% expressed disappointment with the experience.

Persona 5 and its expanded version, Persona 5 Royal, subsequently broke the developer's sales records. Following the game's success, Atlus and its parent company, Sega, have continued to release remasters and spin-offs in the series.

The next mainline entry in the series, Persona 6, was officially announced several months ago. Rumors currently suggest a 2027 release window, but this has not yet been confirmed by the developers.
