【September 15, 2026 Beijing】When cognition itself becomes an obstacle to solving cases, can the truth still be trusted? "Cognitive Detective," a deduction puzzle game produced by the indie game team PHOSEPO and jointly published by Thermite Games and Smilegate, has been officially scheduled for release on November 5th. It will launch on Steam and STOVE platforms, with initial support for Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean.
"Cognitive Detective" is a suspenseful puzzle game that blends "classic deduction" with "cognitive anomalies." The story revolves around a death game hosted by the mysterious religion "Li": whoever can "kill without being discovered" becomes a god and has their wish granted. Characters in the game possess special abilities due to their respective cognitive disorders. Players must uncover the full picture of each murder through clue collection and debate battles. The demo has been showcased at international events such as the Busan BIC Game Festival and Gamescom 2026, receiving special praise and high anticipation from global players for its unique theme and polished presentation.
The core feature of "Cognitive Detective" lies in the deep integration of "Cognitive Abilities" and "Deduction." Each character possesses unique cognitive abilities due to their specific cognitive disorders: some cannot recognize faces, others have blind spots in their vision, and some have memories that distort and reorganize over time... These cognitive abilities are not just character traits; they directly affect the appearance of crime scenes and the authenticity of testimonies. A seemingly reasonable testimony might merely be the "truthful words" of someone whose perception is distorted; a bizarre crime scene may well be the trace left by these cognitive abilities. When classic deduction meets cognitive anomalies, the truth is often more surprising and subversive than imagined.
As a team of only five people, "Cognitive Detective" demonstrates a level of polish in art and presentation that far exceeds its size. The game uses full Live2D character sprites, combined with CG and hand-drawn dynamic comic presentations, to deliver a more nuanced portrayal of characters and key plot points. Deduction duels and execution scenes further enhance dramatic tension through varied presentation styles. This production style continues from the team's previous work, "Azure Prison."
The game features over 500,000 words of story text, with Japanese voice acting in key scenes and more than 50 original soundtracks produced by a professional team. Text, presentation, and music together create the complete narrative experience of "Cognitive Detective."
Discussing the original intention behind the creation, producer Xiao Lu stated: "I've always loved deduction games like 'Danganronpa' and 'Ace Attorney,' and I've always wanted to create our own deduction game. However, when creating 'Cognitive Detective,' we didn't want to simply repeat traditional deduction patterns, so we tried incorporating the concept of cognitive anomalies. Players face not just 'who is lying,' but must also question whether what they see is trustworthy."
"Cognitive Detective" will be officially released on November 5th. Add it to your Steam wishlist now. Get ready for a deductive adventure about truth, perception, and lies.
