An unannounced AAA 2D fighting game has begun recruiting testers, sparking speculation that Injustice 3 is in development. However, the recruitment notice did not disclose the game's name, and NetherRealm Studios has not confirmed involvement in the project.
Recruitment information posted by Good Gamer Group indicates that the test will take place in Culver City, California, USA, from September 14 to 15. Participants are required to play the game on-site for four hours and sign a non-disclosure agreement.
The recruitment targets high-ranking 2D fighting game players, requiring applicants to have reached the top 25% in a major 2D fighting game. The tested title is only described as an "unannounced AAA 2D fighting game," with its developer, publisher, and specific content remaining undisclosed.
Some players have therefore zeroed in on Injustice 3 as the likely candidate. Currently announced but unreleased fighting games do not fully match the "2D" and "AAA" criteria listed in the recruitment notice; furthermore, the test location being in the US further narrows down external speculation.
NetherRealm Studios developed the first two Injustice games and is also the developer behind the Mortal Kombat series. The studio's previous title, Mortal Kombat 1, was released in 2023. With a four-year gap between Mortal Kombat 11 and Mortal Kombat 1, players have used this release interval to speculate on the progress of their new project.
Several voice actors had previously mentioned Injustice 3, but later retracted their statements. NetherRealm Creative Director Ed Boon also recently posted clips related to Injustice. These clues are not enough to confirm the identity of the test project, and Injustice 3 has not yet been officially announced.
