Recently, AMD launched the Ryzen 5 7500 and Ryzen 5 5500F processors for the AM5 and AM4 platforms respectively, priced at $189 and $99, and they are now available in the US. Even though the AM4 platform has entered its second decade, AMD continues to update it, which is no small feat, even if this is somewhat related to the sharp rise in DRAM prices over the past year. DDR4 memory remains more cost-effective than DDR5 when meeting performance requirements.
According to Wccftech, with the release of the Ryzen 5 5500F, some users have already obtained the processor for preliminary gaming tests, paired with a Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB graphics card. The games selected include CS2, GTA V Enhanced Edition, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Red Desert, Forza Horizon 6, and Battlefield 6, all familiar titles to players.
Test results show that the Ryzen 5 5500F is noticeably faster than the Ryzen 5 5500, though the margin varies across different games. In CS2, GTA V Enhanced Edition, and Cyberpunk 2077, the Ryzen 5 5500F holds an advantage of about 7%, and with better 1% Low FPS performance, it clearly delivers a smoother gaming experience; in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Desert, it is only 2% to 3% faster; there is little difference in Forza Horizon 6; and in Battlefield 6, it is nearly 15% faster.
The Ryzen 5 5500F is based on the Zen 3 architecture, featuring 6 cores and 12 threads, with base and boost clocks of 3.0GHz and 4.4GHz respectively, and a TDP of 65W. Although the Ryzen 5 5500F and Ryzen 5 5500 appear to have identical basic specifications, the former uses the Vermeer chip like the Ryzen 5 5600 and supports the PCIe 4.0 standard, while the latter uses the Cezanne chip and only supports PCIe 3.0.
However, AMD has limited the L3 cache capacity of the Ryzen 5 5500F to just 16MB, half that of the Ryzen 5 5600, severely restricting the performance potential of the new processor.
