Recently, publisher 505 Games celebrated its 20th anniversary. In the official commemorative materials, the Chinese soulslike game "Mingmo: Abyssal Feathers" took center stage, highlighting the IP's significant status within the group.
Lead developer Xia Siyuan also updated his personal Weibo, reposting 505 Games' 20th-anniversary celebration post. He thanked the publisher for their trust and all players for their support, stating that the team will continue to explore together in the future to bring better content. In response to numerous comments from players eagerly asking about news on the sequel, Xia Siyuan interacted with netizens using memes, replying: "I get it, friends. No rush, but it must be fast," while also replying to multiple comments to encourage players.
The official overseas Twitter account simultaneously posted a message of thanks, releasing a mosaic art poster composed of fan-made screenshots and illustrations from players around the world. The creations of countless players come together to form the image of the protagonist, Wuchang, holding a sword, with text paying tribute to the community of players. The tweet received nearly 30,000 views overseas, with many international players leaving comments expressing their anticipation for the sequel.
On July 29 this year, Digital Bros, the parent company of 505 Games, officially signed an agreement with Chengdu Recursive Dolphin, the new studio founded by Xia Siyuan. The sequel to the Wuchang series has officially entered development preparation, with an initial investment of €21.5 million. Recursive Dolphin will lead creative direction, while 505 Games will handle funding and global publishing. Development will continue to be based in China. Xia Siyuan also reaffirmed that as long as the local team leads development, the sequel will be considered a Chinese game.
The release journey of the first "Mingmo: Abyssal Feathers" was fraught with twists and turns. At launch, it faced considerable controversy over optimization and version issues. Following continuous fixes, the game accumulated over 5 million players across all platforms. Currently, the sequel has not yet announced its title, release window, or gameplay footage, as all content remains in the early stages of development.
