Andy Nguyen has announced his withdrawal from the PS5 modding community and will cease all development work on the PS5 Linux project. The previously planned PS5 Pro Linux support, scheduled for completion and release in 2027, will no longer be pursued.
Nguyen posted a statement on X, saying he had invested months of work into the project, only to see it all go to waste. He attributed his departure to the changes brought by large language model coding assistants to the PS5 modding community, and criticized some participants for writing exploit code they didn't understand.
Nguyen also stated that someone discovered the last remaining hypervisor vulnerability on the PS5 Pro and reported it to Sony. He claimed that he had previously discovered this vulnerability as well, but did not publicly disclose it.
According to Nguyen, he had asked the relevant parties to at least wait until the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, allowing players to legally purchase the game while using Linux. They initially agreed to wait, but changed their decision and reported the vulnerability within a day. Currently, Nguyen has clearly halted development work on PS5 Linux and PS5 Pro support.
