Outshining Battlefield 6! War Dogs Servers Win Player Approval

The server browser for the early access shooter War Dogs has recently drawn attention. Players feel that this system offers more complete server displays and community server support, providing a better practical experience than Battlefield 6's Portal solution.

War Dogs lists official servers for the player's region and allows sorting by player count, latency, rules, and maps. The game also features a separate section for community servers, which includes servers that can be rented from third-party providers and run continuously.

Players are not forced into matchmaking or skill-based algorithm assignments, nor do they need to search for new rooms after each match, as community servers can keep lobbies running continuously. Currently, there are plenty of official and community servers, so finding an open slot usually takes only seconds; due to frequent player turnover in 100-player matches, queue times are generally not long either.

In comparison, Battlefield 6's Portal does not support third-party server providers, allowing players to create only one semi-persistent lobby at a time. The feature launched with server issues, was flooded with XP-grinding rooms, and its browsing interface was obscured by numerous menu options. Since then, Portal's appeal as an alternative to official matchmaking has rapidly declined, and it is now mainly used for mini-games and XP grinding.

DICE Senior Producer David Sirland previously explained that matchmaking servers can be set up, filled, and shut down within seconds after a match ends; when many players leave mid-game, opportunities for open joining are limited, which can cause queue issues in the server list. However, War Dogs currently boasts millions of players, and its server volume and player flow make these issues less prominent.

Community servers also allow admins to deal more quickly with cheaters and griefers, gradually forming player communities with fixed members and their own rules. This approach is not new; many PC shooters in the past have adopted similar models.

War Dogs' server browser is still imperfect, with features like favoriting servers and ranked queuing not yet implemented. Joining servers as a party is inconvenient, and admins lack some key tools. However, for an early access title, its official server list, third-party community servers, and persistent lobbies already form a fairly complete foundation.
