Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge originally launched on the Super Nintendo in 1995 as a port of the 1990 PC game Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge. The announced Steam version is based on this Super Nintendo release, bringing it back to current PC digital distribution platforms.

Born in 1981, Wizardry is one of the early role-playing games that featured first-person dungeon exploration. Drecom acquired the copyrights to the series' sixth through eighth installments and related works in 2020, along with the rights to the Wizardry trademark in Japan and overseas.

The original sixth installment was previously included in a physical PC compilation released in June 2024, alongside the seventh and eighth entries, with Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge later added via an update. However, this compilation is no longer available for official purchase. This Steam port will provide a new way to buy this once hard-to-find title.

In celebration of the series' 45th anniversary, soundtracks from past titles are now available on various music platforms, and commemorative apparel is open for pre-order. Commemorative illustrations by Jun Suemi will also be released as art prints and relief-style art boards.

The Steam version of Wizardry VI: Bane of the Cosmic Forge is currently scheduled for release in 2027, with the specific launch date and price yet to be announced.
