Apple released the M5 Ultra chip and updated the Mac Studio lineup this August. However, the new models are still facing production constraints, and increased demand has further extended delivery times.

Apple has adjusted its product configurations multiple times in the past. In April this year, the base model Mac mini priced at $599, equipped with an M4 chip, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage, was removed from the configuration page. In early May, the 256GB option for the M3 Ultra version of the Mac Studio was also removed, leaving only the 96GB RAM configuration on the page.

During its most recent earnings call, Apple stated that its memory procurement costs in the March quarter were higher than in the December quarter of the previous year, and costs rose further in the June quarter, with inventory buffers offsetting only part of the impact. The company expects memory costs to continue rising in the September quarter.

The M5 Ultra features a 36-core CPU, including 12 performance cores and 24 efficiency cores, along with an 80-core GPU and a 32-core Neural Engine. All GPU cores are equipped with Neural Accelerators and support second-generation Dynamic Caching, hardware-accelerated mesh shading, and third-generation ray tracing.

Currently, the delivery wait time for the M5 Ultra Mac Studio has reached 16–18 weeks, meaning customers who place orders now may have to wait until next year.
