The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Creator Discusses Remake: Some Content to Be Handled in a More Mature Way

Marcin Blacha, writer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, recently discussed the game's remaster and the new expansion, "Song of the Past." He stated that he would now approach certain aspects of the original with greater nuance and maturity, aiming to provide players with more choices and corresponding consequences.

Blacha currently serves as Vice President of Narrative at CD Projekt. He previously held the role of Lead Writer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and oversaw the storytelling for Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. In his view, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is not an untouchable monument; upon replaying it, he still finds elements that could be handled differently.

Discussing specific adjustments, Blacha mentioned that he might make certain content more subtle and mature. For instance, Dandelion would no longer serve solely for comic relief but would also display a wiser, more supportive side. Geralt's interactions with the world around him will also feature more choices and consequences.

Blacha also emphasized that these ideas do not imply significant flaws in the original version. As he has aged, his perspective on certain content has shifted, leading him to desire different modes of expression. He believes the issue may not lie with the game itself, but rather stems from his own new viewpoint.

The new expansion, "Song of the Past," is scheduled for release in 2027. Blacha stated that the team still has the capability to craft a story that connects seamlessly with the base game of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as well as the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. The project involves both original veterans and new developers who have since joined Fool's Theory and the project.

Blacha hopes the new expansion will not only bear the creative imprint of the original team but also incorporate the passion and ideas of Fool's Theory's writers, quest designers, and other developers. CD Projekt aims for the remaster to do more than just improve graphics and performance; they want the entire game to deliver an experience that feels more in line with contemporary titles.

The remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to launch on September 29 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The base game and the first two expansions will all receive the remaster treatment. All owners of the base game will receive this update for free.
