Players Use DeepSeek and Hermes to Optimize Resident Evil 7 on Android! Frame Rate Increased by 50%

Player @4k_isn used DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and Hermes Agent to optimize the Android emulation performance of Resident Evil 7. On a OnePlus 12R powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the game's frame rate increased from around 20 FPS to a stable 30 FPS, a 50% improvement.

The tests were conducted by running the game via Winlator. The phone was connected to a Mac via USB with debugging mode enabled, while Hermes monitored game performance and made adjustments as needed. Before optimization, lower frame rates were accompanied by increased power consumption and device overheating, leading to thermal throttling.

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash and Hermes determined that I/O operations and memory bandwidth were the primary bottlenecks, so they reduced texture resolutions from 4096 pixels to 1024 and 512 pixels. After processing, the texture size was reduced from 25GB to approximately 8GB.

This adjustment also removed unnecessary files such as audio and skins, reducing the total size of the player's version to 13GB. @4k_isn stated that the visual quality after processing was still significantly better than the iOS version; for comparison, he noted that the iOS version is approximately 25GB in size.

The optimization process also enabled Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (SGSR), upscaling the image from 720p to 1200p. With these adjustments, Resident Evil 7 ran stably at 30 FPS with improved visual clarity, consuming approximately 5 to 6 watts of power.

The released video showcases the game running on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device. During recording, the phone was also handling background game capture tasks, yet the additional load did not prevent the game from maintaining smooth performance.
