Diablo V officially announced, Sanctuary enters a new era where "Diablo wins"
At BlizzCon 2026, which just concluded last weekend, Blizzard officially announced the series' latest installment, Diablo V. The game is currently in early development and is expected to launch in spring 2029.
The core setting of Diablo V is that Sanctuary has fallen and Diablo has emerged victorious. Players will assume the role of Westmarch's heir, surviving on a continent reshaped by fire and fear, and gathering a caravan of survivors to embark on a journey to reclaim their homeland.
The development team has revealed three classes that will appear in Diablo V for the first time: the classic Demon Hunter and Monk, along with the new class, the Plague Knight. In terms of equipment and progression systems, Diablo V will draw inspiration from the depth and recognizability of Diablo II, exploring equipment attribute requirements, more spatial inventory management, item sets, runes and runewords, as well as an enriched crafting system.
Starting in 2027, the Diablo V development team plans to continuously share development progress with global players, inviting the community to witness the next stage of the series' growth through earlier and more open communication. In addition to game content, Blizzard also announced it is collaborating with Netflix to develop an animated series set in the Diablo universe, with more information to be revealed later.
The next era of the Diablo series is arriving.
Classic content remastered, massive benefits launched, Amazon class pack scheduled for 2027; Diablo IV series enters a new chapter
While announcing major information such as Diablo V, Blizzard also revealed the latest content roadmap for Diablo IV. As the Diablo series celebrates its 30th anniversary, Diablo IV's new "Legacy of Hell" season officially launched on September 16; the highly anticipated classic class, the Amazon, is confirmed to join Diablo IV in the first half of 2027 as a class pack.
This warrior from Scosglen will revolve around four core archetypes: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger, and Commander, offering rich gameplay including sword and shield, javelins, bows, and Valkyrie formations. More details on class skills, gameplay content, and purchase information will be announced closer to release.
Alongside the new season, Diablo IV is launching several limited-time benefits: the free-to-play event for the base game has returned, expansion content is available at a limited-time discount, and players can log in to claim exclusive two-year anniversary cosmetics. New cosmetics "Rainbow Mirage" and "Soul Echo" have also debuted, allowing players to draw for series cosmetics for free by completing group activities; a new Ossuary has also gone live, paying tribute to series classics with rich cosmetic rewards.
Whether you are a veteran player of the Diablo series or a new wanderer stepping into Sanctuary for the first time, now is a great time to join the adventure.
Relive thirty years of classic memories, confront the three Prime Evils
The new "Legacy of Hell" season for Diablo IV, which officially launched on September 16, is a key part of the Diablo 30th Anniversary celebration. Wanderers will traverse classic memories from the series, return to former battlefields, confront the three Prime Evils, and embark on a dark journey spanning thirty years across Sanctuary.
During the season, the spirit of the legendary Horadrim Deckard Cain will reappear, guiding wanderers to trace the footsteps of the three Dark Wanderers, delve into their twisted memories, and face the echoes of Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto. Players will return to iconic locations such as Tristram Cathedral, Mount Arreat, and the Prison of Hate, embarking on adventures in refreshed and remastered classic scenes.
After completing the seasonal questline, players can choose to bear an "Evil Spike" representing the power of one of the three Prime Evils, gaining corresponding abilities, reputation paths, and War Plan upgrades; however, while the Evils grant power, they also bring accompanying dangers and challenges.
The new "Lucid Nightmare" gameplay mode will recreate classic encounters from the series' history on various scales: from epic battles at the Keystone Dungeon level, to dungeons fixed across the world, to single-room challenges that randomly appear in the open world. Classic locations, enemies, and bosses from Diablo, Diablo II, and Diablo III will return in a way adapted for Diablo IV.
Additionally, nine classic Unique items from past series entries—including Leoric's Crown, Stone of Jordan, and Messerschmidt's Reaver—will also be added with the season and will be permanently available for acquisition in both Seasonal and Eternal realms. Classic Uniques, runewords, and familiar Diablo gameplay will all return to Sanctuary in a new form.
Sanctuary continues to update, DiaDiablo IV's journey is far from over
The announcement of Diablo V signifies that the entire series is moving toward a broader future; however, this does not mean the journey of Diablo IV is coming to an end. The development team has confirmed that subsequent seasons will continue to advance the storylines related to "Rise of the Dead" and death cults, while continuously expanding and optimizing the War Plan, seasonal gameplay, equipment systems, and customization experiences, providing players with more build possibilities and seasonal challenges.
From the "Legacy of Hell" season that officially launched on September 16, to the continuously advancing seasonal content and system updates in the future, and the return of the Amazon in 2027, Diablo IV will continue to grow, expand, and keep writing new legends belonging to Sanctuary.
Over the past thirty years, countless players have stepped into Sanctuary to confront Fear, Destruction, and Hatred. The "Legacy of Hell" season is now live. Relive past memories and challenge the three Prime Evils—a dark journey spanning 30 years awaits every wanderer.
