Former Rockstar Animator Says Parts of GTA 6's Interface Look Dated, Predicts Game Will Be Supported for a Decade

Mike York, a former animator at Rockstar Games, believes that some of the UI designs currently shown in GTA VI look slightly outdated and don't quite align with the familiar style of the series. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about the game's long-term performance, expecting both the title and its online mode to remain active for many years.

York previously worked on Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2. He noted that Rockstar has a large, experienced team, and while there is still room to adjust existing UI elements before the official release, the studio may need to prioritize more critical development tasks for now.

Discussing the two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, York believes their personalities form a striking contrast. Jason appears more calm and restrained, preferring to plan ahead; Lucia is more decisive, likely jumping into action first and figuring out solutions as situations unfold.

Based on this, York speculates that missions may test the distinct abilities of each character. He also hopes Jason will continue Rockstar's tradition of vivid, engaging characters, while Lucia could be the one who helps pull Jason out of his shell.

Regarding Rockstar's strict confidentiality policies, York stated that the company repeatedly instructs employees not to discuss projects externally, and many staff members do not maintain public social media accounts. He recalled that during his tenure, he likewise refrained from disclosing any details about his development work.

York expects GTA VI to receive patches and updates for a long time after launch, potentially fixing minor issues present at release. He predicts the game could have a lifespan of around ten years, similar to Grand Theft Auto V, with its online mode evolving into a continuously changing virtual world.

GTA VI is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. The series is intended for adult audiences, and parental guidance is recommended for minors accessing related content.
