NC's anime-style RPG "Asora: Wish of the Stars" offered its first public demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The on-site version included story and battle modes, allowing players to experience the prologue, the Minato Ward chapter, and basic combat tutorials, with a complete playthrough taking approximately 15 to 30 minutes.
Developed by Dynamis One, the game is set in 1889 Tokyo, where reality and magic coexist. Players take on the role of the "Director," not a mage, but an ordinary civil servant working for the "Special Zone Bureau," an administrative agency in the magical world. The story revolves around incidents encountered during their work.
The prologue features a "Duel Trial" between Elin Tanaka, Anna M. Battenberg, Haruri Fuji, and the mysterious mage Yuria Kujo. Also known as the "Dominion Trial," this system serves as both a method for mages to resolve conflicts and part of their judicial framework. This segment primarily introduces the story and basic combat through animations and simple controls.
The combat system is semi-real-time. Players consume AP to perform normal attacks, skill attacks, or ultimate skills to interrupt enemy actions. Enemies enter a Break state after taking sufficient damage, allowing players to launch consecutive attacks. Switching characters also costs 1 AP, and skills enter cooldown after being used a certain number of times.
Enemies' special actions require different countermeasures. Red effects indicate "Unstoppable Actions," which players cannot suppress through skill checks; instead, they must switch in characters with higher HP to withstand the attack. Yellow effects represent "Preemptive Attacks," requiring players to time their counter-skills correctly. Counter results are graded as Good, Perfect, or Fail. Even if a counter succeeds, the character will still lose some HP.
The demo also showcases the special skill "Territory Declaration." Once activated, characters can use skills consecutively without cooldowns, but each action still consumes AP. Other activation conditions have not yet been revealed. The battle interface includes options for 2x speed and auto-battle, though auto-battle is unavailable in this trial version.
The tutorial stages feature multiple character groups for players to control, helping them familiarize themselves with mechanics such as normal attacks, skills, character switching, and ultimate skills. As the current demo is still in development, full skill descriptions, damage values, and effect information are temporarily unavailable during battles. "Asora: Wish of the Stars" is currently on display at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
