Xbox Game Pass may see a new round of subscription adjustments in 2027, with day-one launches and cloud streaming reportedly removed from existing tiers. Microsoft responded that there are currently no changes to announce or finalize, and games previously confirmed for day-one addition to Game Pass Ultimate will not be affected.
According to a post by ResetEra user Slayven, Microsoft is preparing to restructure Xbox Game Pass tiers and may change the names of each tier. Overall subscription prices may see a slight decrease, but all tiers will no longer offer day-one access to new releases, with adjustments reportedly scheduled between February and April 2027.
The rumored plan includes three tiers: an ad-supported tier at $13 per month, an ad-free tier at $20 per month or $240 per year; another tier at $15 per month offers access to the existing game library and online multiplayer. The family plan may be offered as an additional $6 per month, while the online multiplayer subscription fee would be $11 per month.
Cloud streaming is also rumored to be removed from all tiers, requiring users to pay an additional $6 for an add-on package granting 25 hours of playtime. However, it remains unclear whether the main subscription tiers include online multiplayer, and how PC Game Pass will be adjusted has not been confirmed.
Microsoft stated that the company regularly tests different Game Pass plans and evaluates player usage in various markets, but currently there are no changes to announce and no plans have been finalized. Microsoft also emphasized that games already announced for day-one addition to Game Pass Ultimate will not change their schedule.
Slayven revealed plans for Game Pass price hikes and tier adjustments in 2025, some of which later came true, but his claim at the time that PC Game Pass would be canceled did not materialize. Leaker NateTheHate believes that the source providing information to Slayven knows some internal matters, but whether the related timeline will hold remains to be seen.
Microsoft lowered the prices of Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass this April, while no longer including Call of Duty as a day-one launch title. Xbox head Asha Sharma also stated that the company plans to gradually adjust Game Pass into a more flexible system, but testing and learning will take time. Currently, Microsoft has not officially confirmed the new round of tier, pricing, and benefit changes.
