Balatro v1.1 Adds Draw Trigger Mechanism and At Least Four New Jokers

Balatro developer LocalThunk revealed some content for version 1.1, including new draw-triggered mechanics, at least four new Joker cards, and Blue Seal reworks. He also confirmed that he will no longer commit to specific release windows for future updates.

LocalThunk stated that the original 2025 release window for version 1.1 has been missed. As the sole developer of the game, he experienced burnout after the mobile version launch and was temporarily unable to continue working on the game. Development status has since improved, and he is still working on version 1.1, potentially revealing more content from time to time.

Regarding the new release schedule, LocalThunk said that even if all content is complete, he might still remove larger-scale designs or continue expanding existing content. He does not want to rush out an incomplete version, so he will not provide a specific date until version 1.1 is ready.

The newly revealed mechanic triggers when cards are drawn into hand, applicable during regular turns, Tarot packs, and Spectral packs. The example shown by the developer is "Ace up your Sleeve": when an Ace is drawn into hand, the multiplier increases by 1. Version 1.1 will also add at least four new Joker cards, increasing from the previously known count of at least two.

The voucher system will also be adjusted. The new secondary voucher is called "Lunker," and the draw algorithm for subsequent vouchers will slightly favor secondary vouchers. If a player holds M incomplete voucher sets, with N of them already having a primary voucher, the probability of drawing a secondary voucher will be N/M.

Blue Seals have been redesigned. LocalThunk had created another set of changes but replaced them a few months ago, believing the current approach is more suitable. After the launch of version 1.1, Blue Seal and Joker card reworks will be enabled by default; new content such as vouchers and Joker cards can be disabled via options in the profile, and achievements will still be obtainable when disabled.

The Steam version will retain an optional 1.0 branch after the launch of version 1.1 to maintain compatibility with older mods. LocalThunk currently has no plans to create a multiplayer version or version 1.2, expecting to release 1.1.0 first, followed by 1.1.1 containing bug fixes and balance adjustments a few months later.
