This tactical first-person shooter developed by Bulkhead Interactive launched into Early Access on Steam on September 10. After its release, the game reached a peak concurrent player count of 428,666, with first-day sales surpassing 1 million copies, rising to 1.25 million by the second day. The developer later announced that sales had reached 2 million copies within five days of launch.

Data provided by Rhys Elliott, an analyst at Alinea Analytics, indicates that War Dogs has sold approximately 2.2 million copies on Steam. Compared over the same period since launch, ARC Raiders sold around 1.7 million copies, while Helldivers 2 reached approximately 1 million.

In terms of revenue, War Dogs is estimated to have generated approximately $70 million on Steam so far. Elliott's data also shows that this figure has already surpassed the combined PC and console revenue achieved by Bungie's Marathon to date.

Elliott believes that War Dogs' $40 price point is lower than the $70 standard for AAA titles, appealing to players unwilling to pay premium prices. However, he also noted that the game still needs to solidify its post-launch update roadmap, as its long-term performance has not yet matched that of ARC Raiders.

War Dogs is planned to remain in Early Access for one to two years, with console versions tentatively scheduled for release in 2028. Joe Brammer, head of Bulkhead Interactive, stated that Season 2 will introduce substantial new content and adjustments, and development has now moved into the next phase.

The game initially faced criticism from players due to technical issues, but its Steam user reviews have since recovered to "Very Positive." As launch problems gradually subsided, players began shifting their focus back to the gameplay itself and future content.
