Bungie has denied rumors that Destiny and Marathon will be merged into the same IP. Personnel responsible for both titles confirmed that the so-called "leaked" content circulating online is untrue, and the two series remain separate entities.
Julia Nardin, Creative Director of Marathon, responded on social media that she had worked on both Destiny and Marathon, confirming that the "leak" about merging the two IPs was false. Bungie's Head of Community Management, Cozmo, later retweeted this response.
Nardin stated that while both games share many of the same "Bungie DNA," they remain independent entities, much like siblings. She also reminded players not to believe Everythinggj they see online.
The rumor originated from a long post claiming to have insider information. The post first appeared on 4chan before being shared to the Marathon subreddit. It claimed that Bungie had internally explored reintegrating the two series into a single IP, with Marathon corresponding to the beginning of humanity's Golden Age in the Destiny universe.
The post also claimed that Marathon would adopt some concepts originally intended for early prototypes of Destiny 3 and switch to free-to-play in December. Other claims included the addition of a PvE mode called "Investigations," raid-like bosses similar to those in Destiny, Destiny-themed cosmetics, and a new Runner character named "Shrike."
According to the post, loot stored in PvE and PvP modes would also be separated. However, Nardin directly labeled this "leak" as fake content. What can be confirmed at this stage is that Destiny and Marathon have not been merged into the same IP.
