Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension Demo Available at Tokyo Game Show, Augmented State Changes Weapon Combat Pace

According to AUTOMATON China, the major DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds, titled Monster Hunter Wilds: Surge, was available for demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026. The showcased content featured the "Amplified State" and several new weapon moves, significantly changing the combat pace for the Charge Blade, Switch Axe, and Gunlance.

Amplified State requires activating the new equipment, "Amplification Bracers," consuming one Amplification Gauge slot each time. Slots can be accumulated by hitting monsters or over time, starting with three slots at the beginning of a quest. In addition to using weapon-specific initiation moves, players can also enter this state by inputting additional commands during guards or specific actions.

The demo began in the new field, "Cloudrest Ruins," with the target being the Alpha Pukei-Pukei. This area consists of ruins among the clouds, featuring significant elevation changes and updrafts; riding a Seikret into an updraft allows you to glide, accelerate, or adjust your altitude.

The Charge Blade has different Amplification initiation moves depending on whether it's in Sword or Axe Mode. Initiating in Sword Mode stores sword energy, allowing you to charge phials during attacks and follow up with Element Boost or Sword Boost; initiating in Axe Mode provides a defensive judgment before charging phials, entering Axe Boost upon successful guard. The new "Follow-up High Output Elemental Discharge Slash" also has clash capabilities, allowing you to adjust timing by holding the button.

Once the Switch Axe enters Amplified State, managing its unique gauge is simplified. In Axe Mode, initiating an attack builds the Slash Gauge, which fills completely upon hitting; in Sword Mode, it builds the Awakening Gauge, entering High Output State immediately upon hitting. Both morph attacks gain additional follow-ups, including "Elemental Discharge Dash Thrust," which can be chained from a dash to perform a point-blank release thrust.

The Gunlance's overall action speed increases in Amplified State, and it gains "Assault Reload," which combines attack, evasion, and reloading into one move. The wide sweep becomes a two-hit cross combo. Even outside of Amplified State, you can use "Wyrmstake Burst" and "Point-Blank Wyvern's Fire." Both moves can be initiated from a wide sweep followed by a Wyrmstake Thrust, and both Wyrmstake Cannon and Wyrmstake Burst can further chain into "Reload Slash."

The demo also showcased a Teostra quest and the handheld mode of Monster Hunter Wilds on Nintendo Switch 2. On-site testing used a Lagiacrus quest to evaluate water environments, demonstrating smooth performance and no significant visibility issues. Monster Hunter Wilds is currently available on PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the Nintendo Switch 2 version launching on December 4th. The major DLC, Monster Hunter Wilds: Surge, is scheduled for release in 2027.
