The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences has announced that Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, will be inducted into the D.I.C.E. Hall of Fame. He will officially receive the Hall of Fame Award at the 30th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony on February 18, 2027.
Goichi Suda (SUDA51) of Grasshopper Manufacture will serve as the presenter. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences describes the two as close friends and creative partners, with Suda stating that he learned from Mikami how to approach game development as a director and designer.
Goichi Suda also drew a parallel to the master-apprentice relationship in Star Wars, comparing Shinji Mikami to his "Obi-Wan Kenobi." He stated that it was a great honor for him to present the Hall of Fame award to Mikami.
Shinji Mikami's career in the gaming industry spans over 30 years, with contributions to titles including Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, Dino Crisis, The Evil Within, Hi-Fi Rush, Vanquish, and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
Meggan Scavio, President of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, stated that Mikami has had a significant impact on both players and developers, with his originality and creative vision continuing to influence and inspire the action game genre. The Academy will honor his career achievements as part of the 30th anniversary of the D.I.C.E. Awards.
Shinji Mikami currently serves as Creative Director and CEO at UNBOUND. The company was acquired by Shift Up, the developer of Stellar Blade, in 2026 and is currently working on an unannounced title.
With Mikami's induction, he joins previous honorees such as Naughty Dog.exe co-founder Evan Wells, Insomniac Games founder Ted Price, Nintendo composer Koji Kondo, Tim Schafer, Ed Boon, and Todd Howard in the D.I.C.E. Hall of Fame.
