Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was available for on-site demos at Tokyo Game Show 2026, featuring all eight playable characters from the original Final Fantasy VII. The demo focused on combat and map exploration, showcasing Cid's fighting style and the new "WEAR" job-based costume system.
The on-site demo allows players to explore the map with considerable freedom. The playable party can consist of Cloud, Cid, and Vincent, while characters not in the active lineup will still accompany you during exploration. The latter half of the demo features story content related to Sephiroth, but there is still more to explore afterward.
Cid officially joins the party as a combatant in this title, wielding a spear and attacking faster than Cloud. His "High Dive" ability can target both close and mid-range enemies, while "Dragoon Shift" allows him to float and unleash consecutive attacks, embodying the classic Dragoon job traits from the series.
The demo also showcased the new "WEAR" system. When characters equip WEAR outfits for different jobs, they gain access to skills specific to those jobs in addition to their existing abilities. This allows players to expand their attack options or compensate for a character's weaknesses, adjusting battle strategies based on character and job combinations.
In this demo, Cloud dons the "Summoner" WEAR outfit, allowing him to summon classic creatures like Ifrit and Shiva into battle; Cid and Vincent remain in their default states. Aside from these three characters, all other appearing characters are wearing WEAR outfits.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is scheduled to launch on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, Steam, and the Epic Games Store on April 8, 2027. The Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy, which includes all three titles in the remake series, is also currently available.
