Final Fantasy VII Rebirth TGS Demo Features Eight Playable Characters and Showcases WEAR System!

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was available for hands-on play at Tokyo Game Show 2026, with all eight playable characters from the original Final Fantasy VII accessible. The demo focused on combat and map exploration, showcasing Cid's fighting style and the new "WEAR" job-changing system.

The on-site demo allowed players to explore the map with considerable freedom. The party could be composed of Cloud, Cid, and Vincent, with unassigned characters following along during exploration. The latter half of the demo featured story elements related to Sephiroth, though exploration content remained available afterward.

Cid officially joins the party as a combatant in this title, wielding a spear with faster attack animations than Cloud. His "Highwind Dive" can target enemies at close and mid-range, while "Dragoon Shift" allows him to become airborne and unleash consecutive attacks, embodying the classic Dragoon job traits from the series.

The demo also introduced the new "WEAR" system. When characters equip WEAR for different jobs, they retain their original abilities while gaining access to skills specific to that job. This allows players to expand their offensive options or compensate for a character's weaknesses, adjusting battle strategies based on character and job combinations.

In this demo, Cloud dons the "Summoner" WEAR, allowing him to summon classic Eidolons such as Ifrit and Shiva into battle; Cid and Vincent remain in their default states. Aside from these three characters, all other appearing characters are equipped with WEAR.
