Naoki Hamaguchi Confirms Chadley's Return in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, With Greater Involvement in the Main Story

Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that Chadley will return in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. Compared to previous entries, he will take on new responsibilities and have a more significant presence in the main storyline of the final chapter of the remake trilogy.

Naoki Hamaguchi revealed that Chadley will have a dedicated room serving as a laboratory inside the airship, where he will study the Meteor. This means the character will no longer just provide side content or exploration guidance, but will participate more directly in the core events of this installment.

The role of field guide previously handled by Chadley in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth will be taken over by his assistant, Mai, in the new installment. Mai will be responsible for guiding players through different regions and continents on the world map, while Chadley shifts to a new role more closely tied to the main storyline.

Naoki Hamaguchi stated that Chadley and Mai will still bring some humorous and charming interactions to the game. Chadley's role has gradually evolved across the trilogy: he initially handled side quests in Final Fantasy VII Remake, leveraging his background to connect summon challenges and the combat simulator.

While developing Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, the team had Chadley serve as a supporting character to guide players through open-world exploration. In Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, the team further integrates him into the main story, though specific details about his research on the Meteor have not yet been disclosed.

Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is scheduled for release in April 2027 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2.
