Gamemode One Launches AI Player Add-On for Minecraft, Enabling Autonomous Robot Actions

Gamemode One has released the "AI Players" add-on for Minecraft. Once enabled, players can summon AI-controlled companions into their game world that can autonomously explore, mine, smelt, craft items, and engage in combat.

The "AI" in the add-on's name refers to traditional artificial intelligence and does not utilize generative AI; all features were manually coded by the Gamemode One team. Once spawned into the world, the robots assess their current needs, set goals, and decide what to do next.

According to Anton Charpentier, Community Manager at Gamemode One, if a robot determines it needs stone tools, it will search for cobblestone and then proceed to gather resources like copper or iron. When hungry, they will look for food and cook it. Different robots make choices from a variety of preset behaviors based on their environment.

Although these robots operate autonomously, their overall behavior aligns with the player's actions. When players are mining nearby, the robots prioritize gathering resources; when players venture out to explore, the robots usually tag along, making them feel more like cooperative companions.

Players can also directly influence the robots' behavior. Using emotes near them will prompt them to follow you, while tapping a robot will cause it to stop its current task. Their choices can sometimes be unexpected, even leading to confusing actions.

The "AI Players" add-on for Minecraft is now available on the Minecraft Marketplace for 830 Minecoins, with a suggested retail price of approximately $4.99 USD or £4.99 GBP. The add-on can also be used in offline mode.
