CESA Survey: 85.8% of Game Developers Are Already Using Generative AI at Work

A survey released by the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association (CESA) shows that 85.8% of surveyed game developers are already using generative AI in their work. In response to issues such as quality and copyright, manual confirmation, correction, and supervision remain the most commonly adopted management measures by companies.

This survey is included in the "CESA Game Industry Report 2026 Preview Edition" released at the Tokyo Game Show, with CESA member companies as the respondents. The effect most anticipated by surveyed companies when introducing generative AI was improved work efficiency and productivity.

Regarding specific management methods, "manual confirmation, correction, and supervision" received the most responses. Most companies have also established rules such as restricting or specifying available tools and not directly adopting AI-generated content to control risks during actual use.

CESA believes these results indicate that the Japanese game industry is establishing safe usage mechanisms centered on human supervision, while continuing to explore the role of generative AI in enhancing productivity.

CESA Executive Director Tsutomu Masuda stated that over 80% of surveyed game developers are already using generative AI in their business processes, reflecting its widespread and steady adoption in development environments. However, issues related to rights, including copyright, remain a concern, and companies must fully consider these factors when implementing related technologies.

Tsutomu Masuda pointed out that the industry has not completely handed over work to AI, but has established corresponding operational systems through manual confirmation and supervision. Balancing the application of new technologies, protection of rights, and human-centric game production quality will be an important challenge for the industry in the future. The full version of the "CESA Game Industry Report 2026" is scheduled for release in December 2026.
