ShintoWorks has announced the psychological horror game Despair Shopping, scheduled to launch on Steam for Windows in 2026 as a free-to-play title. Players will live for 30 days in a sealed room with no doors or windows, where the only thing they can do is purchase items through an online shopping website.
The only connection between the room and the outside world is the shopping website "ZETSUBO.com" displayed on a laptop on the desk. Players receive a small daily allowance, which must be used to buy water and food to alleviate hunger and thirst while maintaining sanity, but the amount provided each day gradually decreases.
In addition to official products, the website features items from individual sellers such as eye masks, landscape paintings, notebooks, and children's blankets. Most appear quite ordinary, but strange items are mixed in, leaving the decision to purchase up to the player. The game also includes scenes where human body parts are displayed as merchandise.
This title combines resource management survival with psychological horror gameplay. A single playthrough is expected to take 60 to 90 minutes, with approximately 3 hours needed to view all content. There are three endings in total, but players may not necessarily survive until the end.
Despair Shopping is ShintoWorks' first title released on Steam. Previously, the studio mainly published browser-based horror games with playtimes of around 30 minutes. The game will offer subtitles and interface support in Japanese, English, and Simplified Chinese, and allows live streaming including commercial use without prior or subsequent contact with the developers.
