This Japanese-style RPG is based on ONI Zero: Resurrection, which launched on PlayStation in 2001, featuring modernized graphics and gameplay systems. Original author Takiya Iijima returns to handle the script and introduced the development background and major changes during a special stage event at the Konami booth at Tokyo Game Show 2026.

Takiya Iijima stated that the original ONI Zero: Resurrection and the originally planned sequel, ONI Zero: Flux, together form a complete story. Since the previous game's ending left little hope, many players have been waiting for a continuation for years. However, releasing a sequel to a 25-year-old title directly to today's audience was deemed inappropriate, so the team decided to start by remaking Resurrection.

The remastered version features five battle tracks for combat sections and will include new events. Takiya Iijima mentioned that since there is still time in development, the team might add storyline connections to subsequent works if players express interest. Additionally, bonus novels for limited editions and other versions are also being considered.

The series previously released an original novel for ONI Zero, but only one volume was published. Considering that existing copies are now difficult to obtain, the team has discussed rewriting the novel from scratch rather than directly continuing the old content.

Character design for this title is now handled by Yoshie Nanbu, with related illustrations still in production. To unify the series' worldview, she is also redrawing characters from all seven works ranging from Oni Ninja Chronicles: ONI to Bakumatsu Kourin Den: ONI. Takiya Iijima also hopes to add new storylines for Gaidomaru that were not depicted in the original.

Takiya Iijima also discussed future plans for ONI Zero: Flux, noting that this part still needs to be developed, though the actual content may differ from the original concept. ONI Zero: Resurrection Remastered is currently scheduled for release from spring to early summer 2027.
