GameNative has further expanded the ability to run PC games locally on Android devices. The development team has demonstrated gameplay for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2, providing support for the Rockstar Games Launcher required by both titles.
This update implements a headless Steam client, launching "steamhost" in the background without displaying the standard Steam client interface. Games still receive the full Steam runtime environment, so users do not need to have the entire desktop client open simultaneously.
This change primarily targets games that rely on both Steam services and third-party Windows launchers. GameNative's development roadmap also includes support for Rockstar, EA, and other external clients, with EA App support currently under development.
GameNative can run PC games directly on Android devices, not through streaming. The project now supports Steam, Epic Games, GOG, and Amazon game libraries, while also being compatible with controllers and cloud saves. Its GitHub page has garnered over 10,000 stars.
The development team is also continuing to improve Steam multiplayer compatibility. The project previously added a lightweight Bionic Steam implementation to handle DRM, DLC, and network connections, but not all games can properly use online features. The team has clearly stated that Grand Theft Auto Online remains limited by its kernel-level anti-cheat dependency and will only run once related issues are resolved.
