Nick Apostolides, the voice actor and motion capture performer for Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil: Requiem, recently discussed the new Resident Evil film directed by Zach Cregger. He praised the film's attempt to give viewers a "game-like control feel," considering this approach excellent.
Apostolides has not yet watched the newly released film, but he discussed the director's overall approach to handling the source material. In his view, the film aims to give audiences in theaters the feeling of playing a game and controlling the protagonist themselves, which differs from previous video game adaptations.
After the new movie trailer was released, some changes sparked discussion among players. The trailer showed Raccoon City with snow, and the protagonist Bryan used a smartphone; these elements are inconsistent with Resident Evil 2, which is set in the late 1990s and features no snow. However, the film does not strictly recreate the events of Resident Evil 2, and Apostolides did not dismiss the film's adaptation direction due to these changes.
The previous film series, produced by Paul W. S. Anderson, featured characters and enemies from the games, including Leon, but the plot primarily revolved around the original character Alice. The 2021 film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City was mainly an adaptation of the first two games in the series, with Leon also appearing in the movie.
Apostolides has been associated with the character of Leon for seven years. He previously portrayed Leon in the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, and this time he provided voice acting and motion capture for the character in Resident Evil: Requiem.
Currently, the story DLC for Resident Evil: Requiem is in development, and Capcom has not yet announced a release date. There are also rumors that the DLC may be released after Resident Evil: Veronica, which is scheduled to launch in 2027.
