The mind-bending action RPG sequel Control: Resonance officially launches on September 24. Media reviews have already been unveiled, showing strong overall performance—fitting for the Oldest House's usual style.
At the time of writing, the game holds an average Metacritic score of 84 based on 56 media reviews, slightly higher than the original Control's 82. However, note that Metacritic calculates averages separately by platform. For instance, the PC version of the original Control scored 85, meaning the 2019 original still edges out Control: Resonance on that specific platform.
GamesRadar+ gave Remedy's latest supernatural title a 3/5, with editor Oscar Taylor-Kent commenting: "Remedy always brings unexpected design choices even to sequels, but throughout my playthrough, I couldn't shake the feeling that this game would have benefited from the restrained, tight pacing of the original base game and its DLC."
Several other outlets shared similar lukewarm assessments. Polygon described Control: Resonance as "a perfectly competent game, which is precisely its problem." Kotaku took a more forgiving stance, calling it "an imperfect experience, but one filled with Remedy's signature charm throughout."
IGN offered a somewhat higher rating of 8/10. Their review noted that while "some sections of Remedy's new title do feel a bit sluggish," there are also "many standout designs that place it among the studio's best works." Push Square also awarded an 8/10, specifically praising the game's "top-tier visual scene design for current-gen consoles" and highlighting how "art and gameplay mechanics are deeply integrated: double jumps, lightweight flight, and cool gravity-shifting displacement abilities make exploring the resonant world a delight."
Outlets like Vice went further, awarding perfect scores. Vice gave the game a 10/10, praising its combat as "incredibly satisfying, with floating maneuvers, air dashes, telekinetic powers, and fast-paced melee attacks complementing each other," calling it "one of the best action RPGs of the year."
Despite its solid performance, Control: Resonance failed to crack Metacritic's Top 20 Games of 2026 list—the lowest-ranked entry, 007 First Light, scored an 87. Resident Evil: Requiem and Pokémon: Pokopia tied in the middle of the pack with 89 points each. The indie twin-stick shooter Sektori topped Metacritic's Best Game of the Year chart with a 94, based on nine reviews for its Switch 2 port; the title originally launched in late 2025. I know everyone loves Big Walk (91) and Mina the Digger (90), but I didn't make Metacritic's scoring rules.
So don't take these scores too seriously. After all, the Federal Bureau of Control wouldn't want you blindly trusting any external "propaganda."
