Ryozo Tsujimoto Says Porting Monster Hunter: World to Nintendo Switch 2 Would Require a Near-Complete Overhaul

The likelihood of Monster Hunter: World being ported to Nintendo Switch 2 is not high. Series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto stated that the main obstacle is not the console's performance, but the development engine used by the game; to complete the port, the game would essentially need to be rebuilt from scratch.

Ryozo Tsujimoto explained that the engine used for Monster Hunter: World is completely different from those used in subsequent titles in the series. Starting with Monster Hunter Rise, Capcom switched to its proprietary RE Engine, a change that altered the prerequisites for porting work.

In his view, regardless of the actual performance and computing power of the Nintendo Switch 2, the difference in engines is an insurmountable core issue. To get Monster Hunter: World running on this console, the development team would have to reprocess a large amount of underlying content, with a workload comparable to a full remake.

Currently, Monster Hunter Wilds has been confirmed for a Nintendo Switch 2 release, but the situation is different for Monster Hunter: World, which has not yet appeared on Nintendo consoles. According to Ryozo Tsujimoto, porting the latter would first require overcoming the significant challenge of reworking it due to its development engine.
