Cloud will remain the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Director Naoki Hamaguchi, who is also in charge of this title, confirmed that the game will add personal content for other party members and allow players to freely switch between characters.
Cloud was not at the center of the currently released trailers. Naoki Hamaguchi addressed this by stating that although the promotional content may have raised questions for some players, "Cloud is still the protagonist." His temporary absence from the party also provides more room for other characters to shine.
Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the development team knows players want to learn more about the other characters, so they have prepared content that delves deeper into each party member. Players can switch between party members at any time and use different team combinations in side quests.
New content for some characters has already been revealed. Red XIII will have a full storyline centered around the card minigame "Queen's Blood"; players can also learn more about Tifa through the piano minigame in this installment.
These adjustments do not mean that Cloud will be absent from the story's center for long. According to Naoki Hamaguchi, while other party members are getting more personal content, Cloud's position as the protagonist remains unchanged.
The game's file size may also expand further. The creators previously stated that the size of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth "could be around 200GB," but this figure is still an estimated scale.
