Three development teams under Blizzard have responded to the possibility of Warcraft III, World of Warcraft: Eternal, and Heroes of the Storm launching on consoles such as Xbox. While none of the teams completely ruled out console versions, they confirmed that their current focus remains on PC.
Brad Chan, project lead for Warcraft III, said the team is discussing the possibility of launching on Xbox and other consoles, but cannot provide a definitive answer at this time. Although there are various possibilities for the future, the team is currently focused on the PC version. The game unveiled its first expansion in over twenty years, "Kingdom of the Forgotten," at BlizzCon 2026.
World of Warcraft Game Director Ion Hazzikostas similarly stated that the team is still focusing on PC. World of Warcraft: Eternal is scheduled for release in November and will natively support Xbox controllers on PC, eliminating the need for players to rely on plugins like ConsolePort for controller use.
Hazzikostas explained that this feature isn't specifically designed for Xbox, but rather provides overall support for controller-based gameplay. For years, players have used controllers through plugins and complex setups, and the team aims to lower this barrier. He also believes that the slower pace of World of Warcraft Classic and World of Warcraft: Eternal might be better suited for controller play, though a console version remains unconfirmed.
James Yen, lead developer of Heroes of the Storm, stated that the team is considering various platforms for the game's future, but at this stage, it's more important to re-establish the project after its return and continue creating content for players who support the game long-term. The team has long-term goals, but exploring other platforms is not the current focus.
As a result, none of the three games currently have confirmed plans for an Xbox release. World of Warcraft: Eternal has already added native controller support on PC, while the other two teams continue to work on expansions and post-relaunch content.
