GTA 6 will unlock at midnight local time in each region on November 19, rather than having a simultaneous global release. Due to time zone differences, players in New Zealand will be the first to access the game.
When it becomes midnight on November 19 in New Zealand, it will still be November 18 in the United States: 3 AM PT, 5 AM CT, and 6 AM ET. Therefore, the release time in New Zealand will be significantly earlier than in markets such as the US.
Xbox players may be able to unlock the game early by changing their console's region to New Zealand. However, this common method of region switching does not apply to the PS5, which will still need to wait until midnight on November 19 in its respective region.
Rockstar has not yet explained the reason for the regional unlock schedule. GTA 6 will launch with single-player content only, without a simultaneous online multiplayer mode. According to recent statements from Take-Two, the online mode may not arrive until as late as 2027.
This title also marks the series' first new release in 13 years. Rockstar's previous major new game was Red Dead Redemption 2, released in 2018, making it an eight-year gap between the two titles.
GTA 6 will not have a physical disc edition. While boxed copies will be available in stores, they will only contain a digital redemption code. The game is still scheduled for release on November 19, with unlocks occurring at midnight local time in each region.
