"Marvel's Wolverine" Sells 2 Million Copies at Launch, with Physical Sales Accounting for 22%

According to data shared by third-party analytics firm Alinea Analytics, Marvel's Wolverine has sold 1.9 million copies since launch, nearing the 2 million mark, with 1 million of those from pre-orders. The game has generated $130 million in revenue, surpassing the lifetime sales and revenue of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2 in just three days.

Furthermore, Marvel's Wolverine has become the best-selling first-party PlayStation game on the PS5 this year, surpassing titles like Marathon and Saros:

- MLB The Show ($99 million and 1.5 million copies sold on PS5)

- Marathon ($60 million and 1.8 million copies sold across all platforms)

- Saros ($40 million and 510,000 copies sold on PS5)

- Marvel Rivals ($49 million and 740,000 copies sold across all platforms)

The largest market for Marvel's Wolverine is the United States, accounting for 53% of the player base, followed by the UK (7%), France (5%), and Canada (4%). Logan is Canadian.

Despite its strong start, analysts believe mixed reactions on social media may limit Marvel's Wolverine's future commercial performance. This contrasts with Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man series, which received critical acclaim and has remained popular for years.

However, the analysis also points out that Marvel's Wolverine sales could see a second surge thanks to promotional tie-ins with the new X-Men movie, holiday gifting, and new PS5 owners seeking the latest first-party PS5 titles.

Notably, the report also indicates that physical sales of Marvel's Wolverine account for only 22.9% of total sales, a figure that will undoubtedly bolster Sony's confidence in its strategy to shift to digital-only releases starting in 2028.
