As Typhoon "Dujuan" approaches Japan, Tokyo Game Show 2026 has decided to cancel all activities for September 21 and will issue refunds to ticket holders for that day. Originally planned to run for five consecutive days for the first time, the event will now end one day early.
The organizers announced on September 19 that, due to the approach of Typhoon No. 25, wind and rain are expected to intensify further from the afternoon of the 21st, potentially disrupting transportation. To ensure the safety of attendees, exhibitors, and related personnel, and to allow for safe return travel, the organizers have decided to cancel all activities for that day.
Events on September 20 will proceed as scheduled. Sony also confirmed that the demo sessions and live broadcasts originally planned for the PlayStation booth on September 21 have been canceled.
2026 marks the 30th anniversary of the Tokyo Game Show. As September 21 is a public holiday in Japan this year, the event was originally scheduled to add an extra day to its usual schedule, adopting a five-day format for the first time.
This year's exhibition features booths from several major publishers. The Square Enix booth offers new demos for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and features a large statue of Sephiroth holding his Masamune sword; the PlayStation booth arranged a large-screen screening of the extended trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, complemented by on-site special effects.
Typhoon "Dujuan" is expected to approach the Kanto region of Japan, including Tokyo, around the evening of the 21st local time. The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts that wind speeds could reach up to 78 miles per hour at that time.
